If the people of Rocklin really knew how little the Rocklin City Council had to do with the “reduced, better” plan for Clover Valley, they might be surprised. If it was strictly up to them, Clover Valley would probably have 700+ homes in it, the 5 Eco systems would have been seriously compromised, and the United Auburn Indian Community, would probably have arrived on the scene too late with its casino money. They probably would have been looking at a development that had paved over most of their ancestral village sites and burial grounds.
The City, in its hurry to get the development monies, tried to push through such a poor Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) that just plain, ordinary citizens tore it apart and forced them to go through the time, effort, and expense of 2 more DEIRs, a Final EIR and a second Cultural Study that the CA Office of Historic Preservations said was inadequate.
It tickles me, and irritates me also, that Mayor Storey and the Council are trying to take the credit for the “better, reduced” Clover Valley plan. The real credit should go to the Save Clover Valley group and concerned citizens of Rocklin, the developer who saw the benefit of a “better” plan, and the United Auburn Indian Community who are, allegedly, going to buy most of the valley floor and put it in a Conservation easement.
Mayor Storey, I hope you don’t hurt yourself trying to pat yourself on the back.
